The most important thing you should remember is that Twitter is about building relationship and building trust. Once you become a trusted Twitter user your followers will increase automatically. So below are few steps you can do to increase your Twitter followers..

• Tweet relevant useful content - I suppose this is a very obvious thing , but most users just plaing ignores this. Its ok to tweet about what you are doing once in a while , but usually people don't want to hear about what you had for dinner etc. This is especially important if you are targetting some specific set of users you have build over time. For example most of your followers are interested about blogging then frequently tweeting about the latest movies might hurt your follower count.
• Interact with followers - People follow you because they liked what you tweet , and they might have questions about your tweets , so always take time to check your replies and answer them to the best of your ability. As your followers grows this may become a bit harder but make sure to reply to as many as possible.
• Follow prominent people in your niche and reply to there posts - This way you will be visible to all there followers and if your reply is meaningful and interesting you might attract more followers yourself. The prominent blogger also will notice you and might recommend to follow you. Recommended by a top tweeter is one of the best ways to increase twitter followers but it is a bit hard to do it.
